The implants are tiny titanium posts, which are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Dental implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration which occurs when teeth are missing. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth also called implant supported crowns.
If you would like tooth replacement with an implant, we will take necessary x-rays and refer you to the implant specialist that Dr. Thakur works with. The specialist will do the exam and consultation. If necessary, the specialist may have to do bone grafting or sinus lifting procedures prior to implant placement. 3 months after bone grafting, the specialist will place an implant in the bone. The patient can continue to wear a partial denture or a temporary crown on top of the implant. After 3 more months, the patient is referred back to Dr. Thakur for restoration. Then we take impressions, and at a second appointment the crown is attached to the implant screw.
